ABDULYEKIN Abilagbo, a  former  Ambassador of  Nigeria  to Sierra Leone, has urged governorship aspirants in Osun to develop manifesto that would be of benefit  to the people.

Abilagbo, who made the remark  while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday, said it was worrisome that most the aspirants have not come up with programmes that would be of benefit to the ordinary people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed Sept. 22  for governorship election in the state.

Abilagbo  said: “Those aspiring to govern the state have not come up with the blueprints and programmes of vision for the state.

“Instead, most of the aspirants, especially under All Progressives  Congress (APC),  were busy championing the issue of zoning.

“Is it not laughable in this time and age that people are still fanning the embers  of religion and ethnicity.

“We can still remember the 1993 presidential election where MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe, both Muslims, contested on the same platform and enjoyed wide acceptability in all zones of Nigeria.

“Nigerians purposely voted them because he (Abiola) presented qualitative and people- friendly manifesto.’’

He said  rather than clamouring for zoning, what should be paramount in the minds of aspirants is how to move the state to a greater heights.

Meanwhile, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, the Chief of Staff to Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, has said he would consolidate on the achievements of the governor if given the opportunity to succeed him.

Oyetola, who is one of the 27 aspirants on the platform of APC, said this while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo.

While appealing to party faithful to support his ambition, he gave  an assurance  that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him by  the people of the state
