Osun NUJ sympathises with Gold FM, Ilesa over fire incident
GENERAL
NIGERIA Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun council, has condoled with management and staff members of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Gold FM, Ilesa, over the fire incident which ravaged the radio station.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the union, Mr Wasiu Ajadosu, on Monday in Ilesa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the radio station was gutted by fire on Sunday, with property worth millions of naira destroyed.
NAN also reports that the inferno marked the third time such an incident would be happening since the establishment of the radio station.
Ajadosu appealed to FRCN management to come to the rescue of the radio station and ensure its return to the airwave.
He called on the sons and daughters of Ijesaland and other kind-hearted individuals in the state as well as the federal and Osun governments to ensure that the radio station was back on air.
The NUJ chairman promised to liaise with relevant authorities with a view to restoring the broadcast services of the station.
NAN reports that the NUJ team was received by the FRCN Zonal Director, Ibadan Zonal Office, Mr Dominic Mokikan and and the General Manager of Gold FM, Mr Oladokun Oladele.
The duo, who expressed appreciation to the NUJ leadership for the show of concern and solidarity, attributed the fire incident, which consumed the station’s transmitter and other facilities, to power surge.
Mokikan said that the visit of the NUJ team would bring succour to the staff members of the station who were already downcast with the fire incident. (NAN)
