FATAI Kolawole, Permanent Secretary, Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), on Wednesday said there was the need for primary school teachers to ensure that pupils improved in their reading and writing skills.
Kolawole made the appeal while opening a sensitisation programme organised for some primary school teachers on “Teaching of Literacy and Numeracy Skills” at the SUBEB hall in Osogbo.
He said it was mandatory for every primary school teacher in the state to ensure that pupils from grade one to three were able to read and write in English and Yoruba languages fluently and legibly.
He urged them to impart qualitative knowledge in children so as to receive endless reward from God.
He admonished teachers to take school children under them as their biological children by going the extra mile in their efforts to ensure success of the pupils, especially in being able to read and write is achieved.
Kolawole said the state government was committed to paying their salaries as and when due and the provision of teaching materials to make their work easier.
He called on parents and guardians to embrace the use of Yoruba language at home with their children, while English language should be used as language of instructions in school.
According to him such method would allow the pupils to be well grounded in both languages as they grow up. (NAN)
