Oyebanji pursuing robust political emancipation for Ekiti women – Dep. Gov.
Politics
EKITI Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, says Gov. Biodun Oyebanji is committed to pursuing women’s political emancipation in the state to bolster their relevance in governance.
Afuye stated this while playing host to members of a political group, Monisade Christianah Afuye (MCA) Ladies, who paid her a courtesy visit in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
According to her, women’s empowerment is a conspicuous component of the human capital development focus of the Oyebanji-led administration in the state.
The deputy governor said that this accounted for why there were six female lawmakers in the House of Assembly, with several others holding pivotal positions in government.
She described the group as politically vibrant, saying that it played central roles in the successes so far recorded by the governor through propagation of government policies among the masses.
She urged the group not to rest on its oars, particularly in the area of human capital development focus that placed high premium on broadening political opportunities for women.
Afuye said that no fewer than six members of the group had secured employment into the state civil service, while efforts were on to empower others without higher certificates but with vocational and business skills.
“Let me say that I am not for Ikere alone, but for all Ekiti people. Gov. Oyebanji won’t make anyone a used and dumped entity; we will lay a good example by fulfilling our promises to Ekiti citizens.
“You will all see that the governor is inclusive in his administrative style; we have no enemy to fight.
“We are also going to consider those who are not in our group for political positions. It is not going to be winner takes all; we will all benefit as Ekiti citizens under Oyebanji’s government,” she said.
On the coming local government election, Afuye said that the governor would place high premium on competence and value addition in the choice of candidates to be fielded by All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.
“You all know that the local government election will be holding in the state before the end of the year.
“Let me inform you that competence and acceptability are going to be considered in the choice of those who will be supported by the governor,” she said.
A former acting APC Chairman in the state, Mrs Kemi Olaleye, described Afuye as a loyal deputy, who was adding value to the present government through initiation of empowerment programmes for the masses.
Leader of the group, Mrs Taiwo Adegboye-Omotayo, described the deputy governor as a good ambassador of the people of Ikere-Ekiti.
Omotayo applauded the deputy governor for empowering members of the group by facilitating their employment into the state civil service and providing equipment for those who were artisans.
“We are here for a ‘thank you’ visit. We know that this government is doing excellently well in the area of women’s empowerment. We want to say that we are solidly behind you because you are doing well. (NAN)
