Oyedepo tasks FG on improved funding for education sector
Education
THE Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, Dr David Oyedepo, has urged the Federal Government to improve funding of the education sector to reduce continuous strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Oyedepo gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Ota, Ogun.
The chancellor emphasised the need to increase annual allocation to education as most of the infrastructures across the public universities were in dilapidating state.
This development, he said had contributed to incessant strikes embarked by ASUU.
“The continuous strike across the tertiary institutions has made the value of education to be dropping,”he said.
Oyedepo noted that the problem had lingered for long in the country’s education sector, thus destroying the destinies of many youths.
He said that the Federal Government needed to make concerted efforts to invest more in education, if the nation really wanted to achieve the desirable national development. (NAN)
