BOBOYE Oyeyemi, corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has personally apprehended a bus driver with registration number UWN 402 ZT for flagrant violation of the law on speed limits. The incident occurred along Okigwe -Enugu highway when the driver attempted to overtake the corps marshal’s convoy with high speed.
According to Bisi Kazeem, head, Media Relations and Strategy, the incident led to the driver being stopped and questioned for his action. It was later discovered that he had tempered with the speed limiting device in his vehicle which rendered it ineffective, thereby making it possible for him to go above the regulated speed limit.
Consequently, Oyeyemi directed the Enugu State sector command to the driver should be booked for speed violation, dangerous driving and tempering with speed limiter in his vehicle. He also warned other drivers against the practice of traffic violations saying such act could undermine safety of the road users.
According to the corps marshal, the FRSC is increasing its vigilance on recalcitrant drivers and whoever is found to have violated any of the traffic rules would be made to suffer the consequences of the action to serve as deterrence to others.
It would be recalled that speed has been identified as the major cause of road traffic crashes in the country responsible for as much as 50 percent. To avert its menace, relevant stakeholders resolved on the introduction of speed limiters, enforcement of which commenced on 1st February 2017.
