GOV. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has congratulated the first military governor of the state, retired Gen. David Jemibewon, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Makinde, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, on Monday in Ibadan described Jemibewon as a trailblazer and astute administrator whose landmark achievements subsisted till date.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jemibewon was first appointed governor of Western State and later the first military governor of Oyo State between 1976 and 1978 following the creation of the state.

The governor said Jemibewon laid an enviable and sustainable foundation that had remained intact.

He said that the people of the state were appreciative of everything the octogenarian did.

“On behalf of the government and the people, I celebrate with you, Gen. David Medayese Jemibewon, first Military Governor of Oyo State, as you clock 80 years today.

“As pioneer Oyo state military governor, you laid foundations that have remained solid to date.

“You built systems and structures that we continue to be proud of. Thank you for everything you have been and done for our dear state.

“As you reach the 80th birthday landmark, I pray to God to give you good health and strength to continue to guide the generations behind you and to reap the reward of your labour,” the statement quoted the governor as saying. (NAN)
