The Oyo State Police Command has warned members of the public against the use of fireworks and holding of unauthorised street carnivals during the Yuletide.

The state Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, gave the warning on Friday while addressing newsmen on the efforts being put together by the command to combat crime, particularly during the festive period.

Olukolu warned criminals to steer off the state, saying the long arm of the law would surely catch up with them.

The commissioner of police said the state would not be a safe haven for criminals to carry out their evil acts.

“There will be intense and aggressive routine police patrols and stop-and-search operations by men in vehicles, both within and outside Ibadan metropolis.

“I assure the members of the public of the police preparedness to protect lives and property before, during and after the Yuletide period,” he said.

Olukolu enjoined residents of the state to continue to partner with the police by providing useful, timely and credible information.

He also implored the residents to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of molestation. (NAN)
