Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, serving a prison sentence over corruption, was transferred to a hospital, local media reported.
The former prime minister was transferred from Adiala Jail to the cardiac ward of the the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on Sunday, Geo News outlet reported, citing sources.
Sharif had reportedly been complaining of strong chest pains.
Earlier in July, Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a 10.5 million dollars fine.
In 2017, Pakistan’s top court removed him from office after the release of the so-called Panama Papers, revealing offshore accounts and other financial information of many prominent figures across the world.
The dossier indicated that Sharif’s children owned offshore accounts in the British Virgin Islands and expensive property in London.
Pakistani authorities questioned the sources of Sharif family’s wealth.(Sputnik/NAN)
