THE Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdullah Shawesh, has urged  immediate ceasefire in the ongoing war between his country and Israel saying:  ‘no one is a winner but everyone is a loser’.

The ambassador made the assertion while addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja at a forum organised by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

“In this war all of us are losers but Israel is a bigger loser.”

According to him, it will be a mistake to take the ongoing hostilities as an Israel and Palestine war, saying that the entire world is interconnected therefore, what affects one affects all.

Shawesh said that Palestine was not in any way seeking support of anyone in the ongoing attack on Gaza, adding that his country situation deserved to be heard across the world.

“We are not looking for support but we are seeking to be listened to by the entire world. We are owed the moral right of being listened to.

“No one is safe until everyone is safe. The international community should ensure  peace return to Gaza and Palestine.” he added.

He stressed the need for all resolutions at the UN concerning Palestine to be enforced, as there should be no more lip service to the decisions taken concerning Palestine.

On Israel being a bigger loser in the ongoing war, Shawesh said the original plan of Israel to exterminate Palestine was yet to be achieved and could never be achieved.

He added further that since the beginning of the present hostilities, Israel had not been able to get any hostage released.

“As such, it is time for the Israeli forces to lay down their arms and come to the  table for a resolution of the age long crisis.

“We thank NSCIA for always being there for us, calling for immediate halt to the siege on Gaza, as the attack by Hamas on Israel was reactionary.

“The recent attack on Israel by Hamas an original creation of Israel which was turned against it by conscience was just a ring in a long chain of incidents that should have been addressed.

“Given that actions and reactions are always in a state of flux, we should also remember that Israel staged the coup against the democratically elected Hamas in Palestine.

“When people are pushed to the wall, they fight back and that was what Hamas did. However, an all-out war and complete siege on two million defenceless people is atrocious, abhorrent and unjustified.”(NAN)
