A CHIEFTAIN of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue, Mr Stephen Numbeve, has appealed  for effective implementation of the proposed palliatives to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy on the masses.

Numbeve, who is the Corporate Communications Manager, Pure Biotech Company Limited, Makurdi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Makurdi that the President had not disappointed fair minded Nigerians.

He said however, that President Bola Tinubu needed to strictly monitor the implementation of the palliatives to avoid diversion by unscrupulous middlemen.

According to him, the President must also ensure that the middlemen and government officials do not divert or sell the palliatives.

He said if the government was able to send the palliatives to their targets and on time it would be very useful to the people.

Numbeve, a member of the dissolved Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, further appealed to the President to appoint very credible people to handle the implementation of the palliatives.

“Having removed the subsidy, he announced palliatives to cushion its effect on the masses, perfect. I want to commend the President for what he has done.

“One thing that he must now do is to monitor the implementation of these palliatives, making sure that these things are done the way he has planned them.

“Some Nigerians can be very terrible people. The middlemen in between the government and the masses may rubbish the whole system for him. But if this is done the way he planned them it will have a very useful impact on the masses,” he said.

He said Tinubu had so far implemented some of his campaign promises to Nigerians, adding that many Nigerians were amazed at the level at which he is able to achieve so much within a short period.

The APC chieftain also commended Tinubu for concentrating on his administration rather than probing his predecessor as such acts were distractions.

“One of the major issues we have in this country is that when a new government comes in place, many people feel that the outgone one should be probed.

“I want to disassociate myself from this category of Nigerians because doing that is a mere distraction. So let the President allow the past to go and concentrate on the present and future.

“Let him put in stringent measures to prevent the reoccurrence of such bad behaviours,” Numbeve said. (NAN)
