ISOLO Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has distributed food palliative items to 3500 residents to cushion the effects of subsidy removal among the people in the community.

Mr Adebayo Olasoju, the Executive Chairman of the Council, said in his remarks during the distribution on Thursday that some 3500 residents had benefitted from the food and cash palliatives which was coming in batches.

“Here in Isolo LCDA, we are exploring all approaches to ensure that our palliative measures have far-reaching effects on our residents to complement the federal and state government’s efforts and see to it that no one is left out.

“Nothing good comes easy and it is on that basis that I will urge us to sustain our belief and confidence in President Bola Tinubu in his quest to rejuvenate the country,” Olasoju said.

The council chairman said that the initiative was part of his relentless resolve to sustainably mitigate the hardship occasioned by the all-important discontinuance of fuel subsidy.

He urged the residents to sustain their belief in President Tinubu’s economy renewal strategies, projecting that there was a lasting light at the end of the tunnel.

“The other day when we doled out cash to petty traders and some artisans to support their means of livelihood, we announced that our food bank initiative would be launched soon.

“Here we are to fulfill our promise. This Food Bank concept is to support households and indigent residents in this trying time,” he added.

Mrs Vivian Igbokwe, one of the beneficiaries, while reacting to the gesture, said that the food items would probably last her a month as she went on to shower prayers on the council chairman.

“I don’t know how best to appreciate our chairman, because as I speak with you I don’t have a grain of rice at home.

“But this will go a long way to ease my struggles for the next four weeks. God bless our chairman and he will continue to prosper.

“The Community Development Committee, religious bodies and trade associations among others had thronged the council secretariat to take advantage of the food bank initiative,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the food items distributed include rice, beans, groundnut oil, palm oil and Semovita. (NAN)
