THE Achi Improvement Union, AIU, is shocked at the death of the Commissioner for Health in Enugu State, Prof. Anthony Ugochukwu, which occurred on Friday night, April 3, 2020.

The news of his death has not only created a very big vacuum in the medical profession where the late professor proved his mettle as a thorough bred professional, but thrown the entire Achi clan and indeed the entire Enugu State into unimaginable grief.

It union noted the tremendous transformation which Prof Ugochukwu brought into the running of the ESUT Teaching Hospital both as Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences and Provost, College of Medicine, which made the health institution a destination of choice for many.

‘’Your death has also denied Ishiilaabu of the benefits which your elevation to the membership of the Enugu State Executive Council and Commissioner in the State Ministry of Health would have brought to the town in terms of development and government presence.

“The national leadership of the union is, however, consoled by the fact that you gave your best to your chosen profession through uncommon commitment, dedication and sacrifices.

“The union joins millions of your admirers, colleagues, patients, students, benefactors, friends and indeed family and loved ones in praying that the Almighty God grants your soul eternal repose and gives those you left behind, the fortitude to bear this heavy loss,” the statement signed by Law Ibenyenwa, spokesman of the AIU, said.
