Ella Ejime weds Moses Okereafor
PAUL Ejime, an international media and communications specialist and his wife, Adeline, an Education psychologist, gave the hand of their daughter Ella Onyinye, a lawyer, in marriage to Moses Chukwudi Okereafor, a human resource management expert, both based in the UK.
The colourful and well-attended traditional marriage ceremony took place in Lagos, on Saturday, August 31.
In line with the tradition of Ogwashi Uku, Delta State, the family of the groom through Kenneth Amadi, the leader of the delegation from Ngor Okpala, Imo State, informed his prospective in-laws of their son’s intention to marry their daughter, who he described metaphorically as “plucking a flower from their garden”.
His statement of intent was followed by a parade of two ladies covered with veil posing as the bride which the groom’s family turned down as not the real bride they came for. Thereafter Onyinye appeared with the groom’s family nodding their head in acceptance that she is person they came to ask for her hand in marriage.
Subsequently, the marriage items from the groom’s family were displayed and three elders from the groom and bride’s family met behind closed doors to discuss the bride price, which was not announced when the meeting was over.
The traditional wedding ceremony then began with the bride searching for the groom with a glass of palm wine handed to her by her father. When she finally located him, she knelt down to give him the palm wine, which he collected from her and drank, thus signifying her acceptance to marry Moses. Onyinye then took him to her father and family members who prayed and blessed their marriage.
Thereafter, the new couple was now invited for their first dance. Friends and well-wishers joined them on the dance floor.
The couple also cut their wedding cake as a symbol of their love for each other with both of them demonstrating how they would care for each other at home by feeding each other to the delight of the guests who witnessed the wedding.
After the ceremony, Onyinye told Realnews that she “felt very happy” and that the wedding was a joyful day for her.
“I met my husband through a friend in London and we courted for like three years before the marriage,” she said.
“My dream is to have a happy home like {biblical} Mary and Joseph and to have God fearing children,” Onyinye said.
Also, Moses said: “I just feel happy, very honoured and excited that I married a woman of my dreams.” “She was introduced to me by a mutual friend few years ago in London,” Moses told Realnews.
On what attracted him to Onyinye, he said that it was her character and that “she’s someone that I can have conversation with and not get tired”.
