THE Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), says it has sealed 571 pharmacies and patent medicine stores for various offense in Bauchi State.
Mr Stephen Esumobi, the Director Enforcement, PCN, stated this at a news conference on Thursday in Bauchi.
Esumobi said the affected businesses comprised of 37 pharmacies, 144 patent medicine stores and 390 illegal medicine shops across the state.
He said the council visited 762 medicine stores during the enforcement exercise in Bauchi; Tafawa Balewa, Darazo, Ganjuwa, Alkaleri, Dambam, Kirfi, Ningi, Toro and Dass.
The pharmacies, he said had been sealed for various offences such as operating without registration; non-renewal of certificates, poor documentation, and stocking medicines outside the approved drug list.
Esumobi said that others were being shut for carrying out clinical services, retailing, substance abuse, and operating without pharmacist superintendent.
He, however, said that statistics of the council indicated that some of the pharmacies and medicine stores were improving their services.
Esumobi, therefore, charged personnel to monitor pharmaceutical premises to ensure that they operate in line with laws and regulations.
“The PCN staff met with owners of such premises and most of them gave assurance that they will comply with our laws and regulations”. (NAN)
