THERE was a mild drama at the collation centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which disrupted the announcement of the results of the March 28, presidential elections. Godsday, Orubebe, former minister of Niger Delta Affairs and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, official disrupted the proceedings Orubebe alleging that Attahiru Jega, INEC chairman of was being partial and refusing to attend to the petition the PDP sent to his office.

He also alleged that Jega leaked the presidential poll result to the All Progressives Congress, APC and passed a vote of no confidence on Jega.

The drama started shortly after the stage was set for more results to be announced by collation officers when Orubebe came in and started making the accusation that Jega was not providing a level playing ground for all the parties that took part in the election to tend their reservations. Later Orubebe sat on the stage and insisted that proceedings will not continue until their petition was attended to. He was later surrounded by security officials who tried to calm him down before he left the stage finally.

Jega then said he had not gotten the petition from the party denied leaking the result to anybody. He, however, said he got a text from the PDP official and advised him that he should send whatever petition he had to his secretary in his office and if it was very important the secretary will bring it to the collation centre. Jega said that he was already at the collation and could not leave to go and attend to the PDP request.

Realnews gathered that the problem is has to do with the allegation that INEC wants to cancel the result of the Rivers State and Delta election where the president got a lot of votes. APC had written INEC requesting for the cancellation of results from Kano, Katsina and other places where APC got bulk votes.

However, Jega interrupted the announcement of the result to make a statement on the Rivers State election result. And Jega said that after investigation, the three-man committee who went to Rivers State returned this morning to state that elections held in the state even though it was not perfect. So he ruled that the Rivers State result should be taken.

Later Orubebe and another PDP official, explained to Channel Televisions that they went to Jega with their petition and he instructed them to take it to his chief of staff and later to one Abdullahi, his personal assistant after they would have changed the letter and address it to him. He added that when they came back, Jega had entered the collation room.
