MR Dickson Akoh, the National Commandant, Nigeria Peace Corps of Nigeria, has expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari will assent to the Corps Bill, passed by the National Assembly.
Akoh said this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday against the backdrop of the passage of the bill by the two chambers of the national assembly.
He said the grey areas which forestal the signing of the bill in 2022 had been taken care of, adding that the President would assent to it in the nearest future.
“The major issue for not signing the bill is economic recession which befell the country and now that the president is seeking to engage youths he will sign the bill,” he said.
He commended the national assembly for passing the bill for the second time.
He said that the passage of the bill was based on its merit, adding that the corps was grateful to the Senate President, Sen Ahmad Lawan and the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila.
“These people are unemployed graduates, who have been seeking for jobs, we have nothing but to commend the leadership of NASS,” he said.
Akoh promised that once the Corps was established it would work in concert with sister security agencies in addressing the current security challenges in the country, saying that the best the president could give to Nigerian youths before the end of his tenure was to assent to the bill.(NAN)
