The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Bitrus Nabasu, has urged Nigerian youths to work harder to grow Gross Domestic Products of countries on the continent.

He made the call in a statement signed by AbdulGaniyu Aminu, the Head of Press Unit in the ministry on Tuesday in Abuja.

Aminu stated that Nababu made the call when he received Pan African Leadership award recently from African Students Union Parliament (ASUP).

The unit head quoted Nabasu as saying “I want African youths to contribute their quota in rebuilding Africa.

“It is only Africans that can develop Africa. The Europeans came to Africa to exploit her natural resources while using Africa as dumping ground for the finished products.

“The Ministry of Science and Technology is working hard to reverse the enduring legacies of colonialism by striving for knowledge-based economy that will make Africa to produce what she needs.”

Nabasu commended the contributions of other African patriots who shed their blood to ensure that Africa became a free continent.

The permanent secretary vowed to redouble his efforts toward promoting efforts of African heroes.

Mr Kewel Abel, the Speaker of ASUP, said that the award was in recognition of Nabasu’s contributions to service delivery and youths’ empowerment.

Abel commended the permanent secretary “for effective and selfless leadership skills.”

The African Students Union Parliament is the umbrella body that covers all students within 54 African Union recognised countries with the core objective of encouraging cooperation.

The parliament encourages stakeholders and public office holders to promote the much-needed peace, development and economic stability on the continent. (NAN)
