Pharmacists Council working to computerise drugs chain – Chairman

THE Chairman, Governing Council of Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Prof Ahmed Mora, says the council is working to computerise the drug Supply chain in the country, to reduce cases of fake and unwholesome drugs.

Mora made the disclosure on Monday on the sidelines of the inauguration of a conference hall named after Prof. Gabriel Osuide, at the northwest Zonal office of PCN in Kaduna.

“We are talking about computerizing the entire drug system that exists in this country. We have formed a working group that is talking about that, and NAFDAC is doing the same thing.

“We are working with NAFDAC on that aspect to ensure that the distribution of pharmaceutical products from manufacturers to importers to the wholesaler, from the wholesale to retailer to the pharmacy is computerized.”

The PCN chairman noted that the pharmacy profession will be 100 years in Nigeria by 2027, and over the years,
regulations affecting pharmaceutical products have evolved targeted at ensuring better health care of all citizens.

According to him, Nigeria has over 300 pharmacy professors and various outlets of accessing pharmaceutical products across the country.

He noted that the skills, expertise, and competencies, of the practitioners, have been enhanced through the acquisition of appropriate credit points under the PCN Mandatory Continuing Professional Development program.

Mora commended the zonal office for immortalizing Prof. Osuidi, a former PCN chairman, who has made valuable contributions to the profession.

The Registrar of PCN, Nuradeen Mohammed said Prof. Osuide was honored for his years of contribution to the nation.

“We want to particularly recognize and appreciate the contributions of the honouree for the selfless service and good leadership.”

Earlier, the PCN Zonal Director, Jibril Abubakar said the event would serve as a motivation for others to do more, and thanked all those who made it possible.
