ALHAJI Ibrahim Ajia, a philanthropist and House of Representatives candidate for the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency under Peoples Democratic Party, has donated five industrial fire extinguishers to Alanamu Market as preventive measures against fire outbreak.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that fire gutted the market in July, when property worth millions of naira were destroyed but the market was recently reopened to continue normal daily businesses.

Ajia who addressed the gathering on Sunday in Ilorin, handed over the fire extinguishers to market women.

He explained that having known the cause and to prevent future fire disaster, he decided to provide the market with safety devices.

According to him, it is very important to put preventive measures in place in markets, to guard against such occurrence in the future.

“I was not around when it happened but the delegates I sent studied the situation and based on findings I feel that in market we should have some safety procedures and that is why I am donating industrial fire extinguishers to Alanamu market today.

“This is in case we have problem like this which we don’t pray for; we will have something to fight the fire.

“Today I also use this opportunity to call on our mothers, the youth and our fathers to unite ahead of 2023 general elections.

“The reason why we are running for offices is because of people, thus, we should not divide them because of our ambitions.

“I preach peace to our people and that we must be united. I pray to Almighty Allah to make us a united family,” he said.

Ajia added that politicians must be held accountable and voters must exercise their franchise wisely in the forthcoming election for the betterment of our state and the country at large.

The philanthropist assured that personnel would be deployed to fix the fire extinguishers in strategic places around the market and at the palace of Balogun Alanamu for accessibility and proper usage.

Earlier, Dr. Usman Abubakar, the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin Emirate, commended Ajia for the good gesture as he prayed God Almighty to continue to bless the donor and grant him his heart desire.

He also appreciated Ajia for supporting people of the state in terms of health, education and welfare.

Alhaja Aromokala, the Iyaloja of Alanamu, who spoke on behalf of the marketers, commended Ajia for donating the devices.

She said: “We also appreciate him for the candid advice given to us that we must stay together and not be divided.

“We promise you that Alanamu marketers will be more united and pray God to answer your prayers.” (NAN)
