GOV. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau state has said his administration is set to establish a committee that will look after the welfare and resettlement of the Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) in their ancestral homes.

Mutfwang stated this when he visited communities in Riyom and Mangu local government areas of the state who were recently attacked by armed militia.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some communities in Riyom and Mangu local government areas of the state were attacked by armed men recently.

“I want to assure you that you all are going to be well taken care of and subsequently returned to your ancestral homes,” he said.

The governor explained that the committee would be high-powered and be chaired by the Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo.

He also stated that his administration would review the land grabbing law and look into inaugurating the anti-land grabbing task force.

He, however, stressed the need for everyone to live in peace with one another stating that people from all tribes and religion must all coexist as one.

The Da Gwom Ryei of Riyom, Mr Samuel Jock, expressed worry that there was no sincerity of purpose in the peace process.

Jock stated that a lot of peace dialogue had taken place in the past which had yielded no results.

He called on leaders of communities to ensure that the peace process was not thwarted by some bad elements.

Also speaking, the President, Berom Youth Moulders Association, Mr Solomon Dalyop, said that attacks were aimed at grabbing their land.

He called on the government to set up an anti-land grabbing task force that would help in addressing incessant attacks.

Similarly, the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, Mr John Hirse, appreciated the governor for taking the issue of peace paramount at his start of tenure, describing peace as a tool for development of any place.

Hirse stressed the need for people to live in peace with one another while expressing shock at the unprovoked attack on the people of Mangu.

The governor had a town-hall meeting with Mwaghavul and Fulani community leaders and visited IDP camps to commiserate with victims and assess their condition of living.(NAN)
