IT is proposed that capital expenditure will take 61.7 billion, while recurrent expenditure will take 77.6 billion.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Dan Manjang, told newsmen in Jos on Tuesday that the budget was arrived at, at an emergency state cabinet meeting.

He said the proposal would be transmitted to the House of Assembly for action.

Manjang said the 2023 budget proposal has an increase of 37 per cent over the 2022 budget.

He explained that the increase took cognisance of inflation to prevent hiccups in budget implementation, while also ensuring smooth transition into the in-coming administration.

“We were advised to put safety plugs more so as this government is transiting. The budget is realistic to ensure its performance,’’ he said.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mr Peter Lamba, said the increment was necessitated by the on-going recruitment and replacement of workers in the state.

Lamba, who represented the Commissioner, Mr Dan-Philip Hirkop at the briefing, said the increase also resulted from the need to ensure completion of critical projects.

He added that it was also to ensure the success of some programmes from which the state would benefit through aids and grants.

The state cabinet also expressed delight as Plateau hosts the flag-off of the presidential campaign of the All Progressives Congress on Nov. 15.

It stated that the event would have economic benefits for the state and was an indication that a lot had been achieved in peace-building in on the plateau. (NAN)
