ACCREDITATION and voting commenced at 8:30am in most polling units for the Plateau North Senate and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency rerun elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that polling officials and materials arrived at the polling units as early as 7:30am in Jos North, Jos South, and Bassa Local Government Areas.

NAN observed that the accreditation and voting were going smoothly in the polling units visited.

Miss Mariah Adeleye, Presiding Officer for Hill Station Junction II Polling Unit (023), told NAN that they arrived at the polling unit at exactly 7am.

Adeleye said that the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machine was so far working smoothly.

Mr Michael Otokpa, INEC Head of Department of Voter Education and Publicity in Plateau, attributed the early arrival of materials and men to timely deployment.

Otokpa said that the commission made all its arrangements in good time to avoid last-minute hitches.

Mr Peter Gai, Plateau Commissioner for Lands and Survey, who cast his vote at Kabong Central I Polling Unit (032) commended INEC for the timely arrival of materials.

Gai said that the process was going on smoothly in most of the polling units.

The commissioner said that the orderliness was an indication that democracy was gaining ground among the people, and it means that the people are eager to exercise their democratic rights. (NAN)
