THE Plateau Government says it will launch its metro bus service on May 7, 2024, to ease the transportation needs of citizens in Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

Mr Davou Gyang, Commissioner for Transport, made the disclosure on Friday in Jos at a ministerial press briefing organised by the Ministry of Information and Communication.

Gyang said that the state government procured 15 diesel buses from Germany to offer cheaper transportation options for the people.

The commissioner said that the buses would cost only N200 for all routes and destinations within the metropolis.

He, however, said that interested passengers needed to acquire a card at the cost of N2000 and recharge the card to enable access to the bus.

Gyang announced that the state government has implemented a pilot vehicle tracking project to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance security.

That commissioner stated that with the device, vehicles, whose particulars expired would be easily identified and sanctioned by vehicle inspection officers.

“We have also implemented a platform for road users to make daily payments for road usage, aiming to increase state revenue for development.

“We are initiating a project to automate all tricycles in the state to improve accountability and curb crime.

“Completed the first phase of the railway project, connecting Jos Terminal to Bukuru, with plans for further expansion to other local governments and states.

“Despite the Plateau  government’s efforts, we are experiencing delays in commissioning due to issues with the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and we are aiming to resolve them soon,’’ he added. (NAN)
