Plateau United GM takes over as new director of sports

THE General Manager of Plateau United Football Club of Jos, Pius Henwan, has formally taken over the affairs of the Plateau Sports Council as its substantive Director of Sports.
A statement by Albert Dakup, Plateau United Media Officer, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, said that a brief handover ceremony took place in Jos on Monday.
Dakup quoted Henwan as saying that he was not coming to victimize anybody in the sports council, instead has come to work for the progress of sports and Plateau in general.
Henwan solicited for the cooperation of staff to enable him succeed, pointing out that without their support he cannot achieve his mandate of improving the fortunes of sports in the state.
“Let’s put our political, religious and ethnic differences aside and move the council forward.
“It is not going to be business as usual as we are going to work hard and I will try my best to see that I make the sports council conducive for all of us to work together,” he said.
Outgone acting Director of Sports, Simon Moven, in his remarks before handing over to his successor, said that he was retiring after putting in the mandatory 35 years in service.
Moven solicited the cooperation and support of staff for his successor to succeed.
He advised staff to shun rumour mongering and mutual suspicion, saying that the two vices have retarded the progress of the sports council.
He assured the new director that his doors are wide open for advice that would move the council forward and urged staff to work assiduously for the growth of sports and the state.
Meanwhile, Henwan would also continue as Plateau United general manager until the end of the current Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season which comes to a close on Sunday.
“We would be in charge of united until the completion of this year’s Federation Cup where the Peace Boys were pitched against Ingas of Enugu in the round of 16 of the competition.
Henwan is expected to hand over to the secretary of the club immediately after the NPFL and the Federation Cup, pending the appointment of a substantive general manager of the club. (NAN)
