Police arraign 2 mechanics for allegedly stealing vehicle spare parts worth N815,000

THE police on Wednesday in Abuja, arraigned two mechanics in an Upper Area Court, Mpape, for allegedly stealing spare parts worth N815, 000 from customer’s cars.

The police charged Monday Guakpara, 22, and Ibrahim Akintayo, 28, who reside in Mechanic village, Apo, Abuja with two counts of criminal conspiracy and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the defendants on June 21, June 22, June 23 and July 1, vandalised customer’s cars kept in their care and stole some parts.

Nwaforaku alleged that the defendants stole, one crane shaft, one fan, one alternator, one radiator, hilux top cylinder, half engine, brake fluid and timing belt, all valued N815, 000.

He said the case was reported atthe  Apo Police Station on July 4 by the complainants, Emmanuel Ogar, Abiodun Abisoye, Ikechukwu Nwodo.

The prosecution counsel said the offence contravened the provisions of  sections 97 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Mr Hassan Muhammad, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Muhammed ordered that the sureties must be reasonable, reliable and must be a civil servant living within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 19 for hearing.
