Police arraign 3 drivers over alleged criminal breach of trust, negligence

Three drivers, on Thursday, appeared before a Kubwa Grade I Area Court, Abuja, over alleged criminal breach of trust and negligence.
The defendants: Augustine Isidhmoen, 30; Alex Benson, 33 and Elvis Osas, 27, are facing a three-count charge bordering on joint act, criminal breach of trust and negligent conduct.
The Prosecution Counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, Omole Adekunle, reported the matter at Dutse Alhaji Police Station on Dec. 10.
Olanipekun said that the complainant’s boss, one Mr Eghosa Ogedegbe, had entrusted the defendants with inverter batteries through an agent in Lagos on Dec. 6.
He said that when the defendants conveyed the inverters from Lagos to Abuja, they negligently parked along Kubwa express road and slept off.
The prosecutor said that 35 pieces of inverter batteries, valued at N5,250,000 got stolen in the process.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 79, 321 and 197 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
The Judge, Mr Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N1million each, with one surety each in like sum.
Adamu ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce means of identification.
He adjourned the case till Feb. 24, 2021, for hearing. (NAN)
