THE Police Command in Benue State, on Monday, arraigned Godwin Uhaa, 19, Terna Terzungwa, 20 and Terlumun Ianna, 18, before a Makurdi Upper Area Court for alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the case was transferred from E – Division, Akpehe, Makurdi to the State Criminal Investigation Department through a letter No. AR:3100/BNS/MKE/VOL.5/227 dated July 7, 2020.
Shaagee said that one Iya Shuwa of Ayihe village off Judges Quarters, Makurdi, reported the case.
She said that according to the informant, while on transit from Makurdi to Gboko; on reaching Abinsi after Angbaayi, one passenger in the vehicle pretended that he did not want to travel again.
The prosecutor alleged that the passenger then asked the driver to stop for him to come down which the driver did.
“At that stage of the journey, some young men armed with guns and cutlasses came out of the bush.
“They attacked him and other passengers in the vehicle, robbed them of N13,000 cash, a First Bank ATM card, and three phones valued at N150,000,” Shaagee explained.
The prosecutor said that the three accused persons were all arrested during police investigation and they confessed to the crime.
She said the offences contravened Sections 6 (b) and 1 (1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act 2004.
However, when the case came up for mention on Monday, no plea was taken for want of the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate, Ms. Rose Iyorche, ordered the accused to be remanded at the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre, Makurdi and adjourned the case till Aug. 27 for further mention. (NAN)
