THE police on Friday arraigned a 38-year-old, Festus Olubiyo, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly obtaining N7.9 million under false pretences.

Olubiyo, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining under false pretences and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in June and December 2023 at the Ogunpa area of Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant obtained the money from one Temitope Adebayo, under the pretext of assisting him to pay school fees at a school in the United Kingdom.

He alleged that the defendant failed to do so, rather converted the money to his personal use.

Adegbenro said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N3.5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Sanusi-Zubair held that the two sureties must be blood relations of the defendant and be gainfully employed.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until Feb. 28 for hearing. (NAN)
