Police arraign man, 26, over alleged theft, store breaking

 THE police, on Monday, arraigned a 26-year-old man, Amos Ayuba, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing and store breaking.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a three-count charge of stealing and store breaking.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on Jan. 8 at about 3:30 p.m. at Omisanjana area of Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi said that the defendant and others at large stole two live pigs, valued at N500,000, belonging to the complainant, one Mr Bamidele Omolade.

He further stated that the defendant and his fleeing accomplices also stole the complainant’s pumping machine and electrical gadget, valued at N1.1 million.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant and his accomplices broke into the complainant’s store.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 302, 302 and 325 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Tunmise Akinwunmi, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N60,000, with one surety in like sum.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 26 for hearing. (NAN)
