Police arraign man, 30, over alleged illegal possession of Indian hemp

THE Police on Friday arraigned a 30-year old man, Owolabi Gboyega, at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over illegal possession of Indian hemp.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of illegal possession of Indian hemp.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 23 at about 07:30 p.m., in Ado-Ekiti.
Bamigbade alleged that the police found weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and illicit drugs in the possession of the defendant.
He said that the offence contravened the Indian Hemp Act 1966.
Bamigbade urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till July 13 for hearing.(NAN)
