Police arraign man, 31, over alleged assault, theft

THE Police, on Thursday, arraigned a 31-year-old man, Tayo Adeyemo, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and stealing.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 5 at 8.00 p.m., in Isato Area of Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo alleged that the defendant assaulted one Mr ThankGod James by slapping him on the face.
He also alleged that the defendant stole Itel mobile phone valued at N10,000 and a cash sum of N10,000, belonging to the complainant.
According to Leramo, the offence contravened Sections 185 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adefolaju Ayobioloja, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in the like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug.17 for further hearing.(NAN)
