Police arraign man, 35, over alleged assault, breach of peace

A 35-year-old man, Effiong Bassey, on Thursday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one Ngozi Onyechia.
Bassey, of no fixed address, is facing charges of assault and breach of public peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Akpan Nkem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 11 at about 12.30 p.m. at No. 6, Ojoku St. Oke-Agbo, Shibiri area of Lagos.
Nkem said that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Onyechia, by inflicting injury on his left eye with a sharp object suspected to be iron, during a disagreement.
He further told the court that the defendant threatened to kill the complainant.
He said the offences violated sections 173 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant, a N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Adekomaiya said the sureties must be gainfully employed.
The case was adjourned until Jan. 26, for mention. (NAN)
