Police arraign man, 43, over alleged reckless driving

A 43-year-old man, Muri Lasisi, who allegedly drove recklessly and caused injury to two Rapid Response Service officers (RRS), was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Lasisi is facing a three-count charge of reckless driving, driving without driving licence and causing injury.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Raphel Boney, had told the court that Lasisi committed the offences on July 12, at 7.00p.m., on Eko Bridge on Lagos Island.
He said that Lasisi recklessly drove an LT bus with Lagos registration no. XS 348 LSR without regard to other road users.
“Lasisi drove against traffic and in a bid to avoid oncoming vehicles; he swerved the vehicle and hit two RRS officers, Sgts. Michael Edem and Oluwatayo Adedeji causing them severe injuries.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 20, 28 and 36 of the Traffic Act, 2012, Section 26 of Lagos State Road Traffic Laws, 2012, as well as Section 26 of the Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2012.
The magistrate, Mr B.A. Ajiferuke, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 20 for mention.
