Police arraign scavenger for alleged theft of manholes in FCT

A 22-year-old scavenger Jamiu Musa, on Monday appeared before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing manholes from some streets in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Abuja.
The police charged, Musa of no fixed address with theft.
The prosecution counsel Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that police officers attached to the Wuse Zone 3 Police Divisional Headquarters, arrested the defendant during their routine patrol on March 17.
Nwafoaku alleged that the defendant was arrested with several manholes which he removed from some major roads in the FCT, endangering the lives of road users.
He said during police investigation, the defendant could not justify his actions, saying the offence contravene section 287 of the penal code law.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Muhammed Wakili admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety in like sum.
Wakili ordered that the surety must provide a BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
The Judge adjourned the matter until April 25, for hearing. (NAN)
