Osun State Police Command on Thursday said it had commenced investigation into the arrest of four men suspected to be fake election monitors.
The suspects, it was learnt, were arrested in a village called Iwaro, near Osu, the headquarters of Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State.
It was not immediately clear how the suspects were arrested, but a reliable security source told our correspondent that they were picked up near a polling station on election day.
The source further explained that the suspects were arrested because they could not explain satisfactorily their mission in the area.
When contacted, the spokesperson for Osun Police Command, SP Folasade Odoro, said some suspects that claimed to be election monitors were in their custody.
Odoro said, “They were not accredited anywhere. We can’t find any accreditation tag on them. They only called themselves monitors. Investigation is still ongoing.”
