THE Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said education of police children would form part of the ongoing police reform in the country.

The minister said this on Wednesday in Abuja during a supervision visit to monitor ongoing holiday lesson at Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) International School.

She said that the holiday lesson programme was organised in conjunction with POWA and Prof. Hauwa Ibrahim, a visiting Lecturer from Harvard.

The minister said the areas of focus in the ongoing lesson programme were Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM).

She said that the programme was organised to encourage and promote children in the chosen fields, as well to return Police Secondary Schools to its past glory of being the centres of excellence.

“The message is to demonstrate that in our ongoing police reforms, education within police Primary and Secondary Schools will be considered.

“Once upon a time our police schools were the best, and that is what we are driving to achieve, we are driving for excellence.

“In the next few years, they should go back to their past glory of being the best and choice schools,” she said.

In her remark, the Mandate Secretary in the Women Affairs Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mrs Adebayo Benjamins-Laniyi, said the STEAM programme had been concluded in four centres in the FCT.

She said that the centres were located at Kagini, Karu, Gwako and Karamajiji communities in the territory, adding that 250 children were involved in each of the centres.

The mandate secretary said the programme was particular about inclusivity for the orphans and vulnerable children. (NAN)
