Police dock family of 3 for allegedly assaulting policeman

THE Police have dragged a family, comprising  father, Mathew Olabiyi, 50, his wife, Taye Olabiyi and daughter, Abidemi to an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The police charged the  defedants on four counts of conspiracy, assault, malicious damage and manner likely to cause breach of peace.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the  defedants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Idowu, granted the defedants bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the matter until Nov. 8 for definite hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel,  Insp Olusegun Adegboye, told the court that

Olabiyi, his wife and daughter allegedly conspired together to commit the offence.

Adegboye said on Aug. 28, at about 9:30 a.m. at Oshodi  Str, Felele area, Ibadan, the family allegedly assaulted one Sgt David Ogundeyi by beating him and tearing his Police uniform

He said the defedants allegedly damaged  Ogundeyi’s  Techno  Pop 3 cell phone  valued at N45,000 .

Adegboye said the defendants allegedly conducted themselves  in a manner likely to cause breach of peace  by formenting trouble, harrassing and embarrassing Sgt. Ogundeyi.

He said the offence contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)
