A 38-year-old man, Timothy Faleye, on Monday appeared in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly encroaching into a community farmland, and destroying crops worth N1.8 million.
The Police charged Faleye, whose address was not provided, with forceful entry, malicious damages, threat to life and conspiracy.
The Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant, and others still at large, committed the offences on Oct. 26, at about 4:30 p.m., at Ijako, via Ajibode, Ado-Odo-Ota area of Ogun.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplices, conspired to forcefully enter into a farmland, and damaged crops worth N1.8 million belonging to Ojusango Community.
He added that they also threatened the life one Chief Muisideen Ogunremi, Chief Akeem Abati and Chief Toyin Sonde.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 86, 133, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
Faleye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, admitted the defendant to N200,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government.
She then adjourned the case until Dec. 14, for further hearing. (NAN)
