The Kano State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 34 suspected political thugs between October 2 and 5, 2018.
The command, in a statement on Sunday, said while 18 of them were screened and released, 16 others, who were indicted after a thorough investigation, would be prosecuted.
Among those arrested was one Bashir Gachi, an alleged wanted armed robber, who had earlier fled the state.
The spokesman for the command, SP Magaji Majia, explained that 50 sticks, 20 cutlasses, 16 swords and nine knives were recovered from the suspects.
“About 40 suspected political thugs identified through Close Circuit Television cameras at various locations, will also be pursued and arrested in due course.
“More arrests are being made by the police at various criminal hideouts and black spots as directed by the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf,” he added.
The command promised to continue carrying out raids on black spots throughout the state ahead of the 2019 general elections. – Punch
