THE Police Command in Lagos State on Wednesday reiterated commitment to continuously tackle cultism, traffic robbery and other forms of criminality in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, gave the assurance at the ongoing weapons and combat training for police officers in Lagos.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement that the CP gave the assurance while addressing area commanders, heads of departments and tactical commanders at the POWA Hall, Oduduwa Ikeja.

He said in continuation of the command’s renewed tactical skills to combat crimes in the state, the CP launched another phase of weapons and combat training for members of the rank and file.

According to Adejobi, this is to be in tandem with ongoing similar training for the 110 divisional police officers in the state.

He said the CP also promised to extend the training session to heads of departments and sectional heads in the command as all hands must be on deck to beef up security in Lagos State.

“The training, which is being carried out at various camps in the state, has an outline designed to include legal studies in order to boost the personnel’s expertise in legal proceedings, human rights and general criminal laws in line with international practices,” he said.

The PPRO added that some arrests were also made in the state in total compliance with the directive and anti crime strategies of the CP.

Adejobi said police operatives attached to the Area D Command, Mushin, on Monday, arrested one Nwugo Oforuike, a member of Aiye Confraternity with one locally-made pistol, one live cartridge, one car key, one infinix hot 8 light phone, one neck chain and one iron rod.

“The police operatives attached to Ojo Division of the command, on Monday at 6am, arrested a suspected serial House Breaker, Marcus Ikechukwu who has been terrorising and breaking into people’s houses at Ikotun, Igando, Surulere and other places within the state.

“The police team on patrol at Alaba International Market, Lagos, intercepted one green T4 bus and upon search, some suspected stolen items were recovered.

“The items include one large cutter for breaking into houses and three big generators,” he said.

The PPRO said the suspect had confessed to the crime that he broke into many houses in Surulere, Igando and Ikotun areas of the state.

Similarly, the same police operatives attached to Ojo Division on Monday,  at about 10:30 p.m., arrested two suspected traffic robbers/house breakers at TIV Yam Market, off Lagos/Badagry Expressway, Alaba Rago, Ojo, Lagos.

The suspects, according to  the PPRO are, Abdulkareem Hamzat of old NEPA Road, Alaba Rago, Ojo and Nura Adamu of Karabosowa, Ojo-Lagos.

“They were caught in possession of two dagger knives, giant cutter, one cutlass, catapult and some weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

“The CP has directed that the suspects be handed over to the command’s Special Squad, Ikeja for proper investigation and prosecution.

“He further appealed to the general public to beware and keep watch on strange faces in their various communities and relate closely with their Divisional Police Officers and local vigilantes as a measure to curb crimes and criminality in the state,” said Adejobi.

He added that the CP reaffirmed that the command would not rest on its oars in ensuring adequate security of Lagos State.
