A POLICEMAN and a DSS operative attached to the speaker of Abia state House of Assembly, Chikwendu Kalu, have been arrested for shooting two officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC. The incident occurred at Arungwa Junction, near Aba, on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, when the officials stopped the vehicle conveying Victoria, the speaker’s wife, to Aba.
She was accused of not using her seat belt and her car was about to be booked when she reportedly called her husband, who sent in the police.
However, the speaker told journalists on Sunday, July 16, that he sent his chief detail to the place, but was surprised to hear later that there was shooting. Kalu, who condemned the shooting, described it as an act of “over-zealousness” by security operatives as he did not order them to do so.
Sources close to the command said that the shooting was carried by a policeman and an officer from the Department of State Services, DSS.
“The two persons have been arrested and are being detained. Investigation into the incident had commenced,” a source said.
