Policymakers, experts, others converge on Botswana for Economic conference

POLICYMAKERS, experts and other stakeholders from across Africa have converged on Gaborone, Botswana, for the 2024 African Economic Conference (AEC).
The theme of the conference is: “Securing Africa’s Economic Future Amidst Rising Uncertainty.” and it will feature discussions from key stakeholders on the continent.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the AEC 2024 aims to address Africa’s pressing economic challenges and strategies for resilience amidst global uncertainties.
The discussions would focus on four critical areas including the impact of uncertainty on Africa’s development, and resilience through African-led solutions, innovative financing in uncertain times and leveraging technology for predictive strategies.
The event would also emphasise the role of innovation and youth-led solutions in strengthening resilience across sectors.
The meeting, which is expected to generate actionable recommendations to guide African nations toward economic stability and prosperity in an increasingly complex global landscape. opens today and will end on Nov. 25.
The conference is being co-hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
NAN reports that major high points at the event woukd include a keynote address delivered at the opening by the Botswana President Duma Boko.
Other notable speakers would include Dr Phenyo Butale, Botswana’s Minister of International Relations; Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, and UNDP Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Africa,
Others arebProf. Kevin Urama, AfDB Chief Economist and Vice-President, and Mr Claver Gatete, UNECA Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary would also present their addresses.
Another key highlight will be a research competition recognising impactful contributions from leading scholars across the continent.
