CHIEF Frank Nweke, the Governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for Enugu State, has said that politics and elections are no longer business as usual.
electorates to shun vote-buying in the forthcoming general election.
Nweke stated this in Enugu on Friday during his campaign in some markets in the state.
“Politics should be about the welfare of the people; in the case where a political party has failed to uplift you, the only option left is for you to vote them out.
“Vote them out and choose people whose sole interest is to serve you,” he said.
He warned traders and shoppers in the state to shun vote buying and violence in the coming election.
Sharing his plans for the people while on a tour of the Afor Ogwuiga and Eke Obinagu markets in Enugu East Local Government Area, Nweke pledged to cater for their welfare.
Nweke said his administration’s goal was to improve the general standard of living in the state by providing people the basic needs.
“Basic needs as security, good water supply, good road infrastructure and in particular, to ensure that the markets are renovated and in good condition for use,” Nweke said.
In response, the traders reaffirmed their commitment to voting for competence and character in the coming election, stating that their desire was to have a change in the state of affairs.
One of the traders, Mrs Victoria Sylvanus, said they did not need money from any politician, noting that the state needed good governance.
“We have suffered enough, we want water, we want good roads and good governor who has the people’s interest at heart,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that APGA market tours have been ongoing for months to reach Enugu residents, listen to their concerns, share the solutions and to earn their support and votes. (NAN)
