The Christian Legislators’ Fellowship has urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for peace, unity and good governance ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The fellowship made the call at a news conference on its planned 9th National Prayer Breakfast.

The Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Rep. Pally Iriase (APC-Edo), who addressed the news conference, stressed the need for continued prayers for the country.

“I can assure you, this country has gone through and it is still going through a lot of challenges.

“You wonder, as the country pushes towards the precipices, your mind get benumbed by the fear that makes you start feeling that things will go terribly for Nigeria, Nigeria will go under, and from nowhere, the hand you cannot see pulls us back.

“Election 2015, if you will recall, there were a lot of dooms day prophesies, in fact, Europe and America had given up on Nigeria.

“They had made it clear that that was when Nigeria will break; did it happen? It is prayer such as this so the impart has been, very capable.’’

Earlier, Rep. Tajudeen Yussuf (APC-Kogi) gave the theme of the Prayer Breakfast slated for Nov. 7 at the International Conference Centre as `Truth, Passion and Service for Good Governance’.

He said since God created man in His image and likeness, man needed to seize the atmosphere of grace freely bestowed on him to accomplish God’s desire to fulfill His purpose.

According to Yussuf, God values righteousness and justice in leadership.

He added that it would be impossible for leaders to change the world without such qualities.

“What qualities do we want in most of our leaders, God desire al who rule under him to be righteous and just?

“Think how the world would change if leaders would commit their selves to these qualities, therefore we must pray that they will commit themselves to such tendencies.’’

Yussuf also urged Nigerians to pray for the country and to uphold the place of God in all that they would do.

The lawmaker said that President Muhammadu Buhari would be the special guest of honour at the event, while Apostle Emmanuel Kure would be the guest speaker and prayer lead.

He added that President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, would lead the leadership and other members of the National Assembly to the prayers. (NAN)
