THE Accountable Leadership for Better Nigeria Initiative, ALBNI, a non-governmental organisation, has called on Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed administration not leave unnecessary baggage for the incoming in Kwara State.

The organisation in a press statement signed by Remi Olu Adebayo, its executive director, Sensitisation, accused the Ahmed administration of meddling in affairs that don’t concern it.

First, it accused the Kwara State House of Assembly enacting a law which would not allow the incoming state governor from reorganising the local government administrations in the state. “This piece of legislation can best be described as deceitful, self serving and unrealistic. It is patently flawed because it is a ploy to foist on the in-coming governor a fait accompli – an odious baggage of Local Council chairmen sitting on stolen mandates,” ALBNI’s press statement said.

The organisation similarly faulted the sudden appointment of an acting Vice-Chancellor for Kwara State University and the directive that AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, the incumbent vice-chancellor, should proceed on terminal leave. It noted that the tenure of the incumbent vice chancellor will terminate on July 27, 2019. It then asked, “Why the haste?”

Hence, it argued: “This directive, already denounced by KWASU Governing Council, is not in tune with the university’s law and amounts to a careless meddlesomeness by Governor Ahmed who has overreached himself to usurp the powers of the Council.  We cannot but ask: Why is Governor Ahmed, who bent the rules to give Prof. Na’Allah two terms of ten years, now too eager to get rid of him? And why is he so concerned about the fortunes of KWASU after denying the institution any subvention since 2015!

“This action of the state government is illegal and the Governing Council of KWASU has denied claims that its members were consulted before a new acting vice chancellor was named.”

In the same breath, the organisation said it found it ridiculous that the creation of the Kwara State House of Assembly Service Commission. “For 16 years, the SARAKI-AHMED government was not interested in a service commission for the rubber stamp legislature. Now, someone has woken from slumber, and after a comical dream, to foist on the state a five-member commission, all members of the dying dynasty and card carrying members of the PDP. What a rude joke on Kwarans!” the ALBNI said.

Nevertheless, the organisation enjoined Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman, the governor-elect not to be distracted, but focus on his mandate and strive to provide good governance for the people of Kwara State.
