A group under the aegis of Aguata Politicians and Elite have endorsed Akpo Community to produce the next member to represent Aguata 1 Constituency in the Anambra House of Assembly.

The group said their position was for equity, fairness and in the spirit of the sharing formula with which the six communities that make up the constituency share political opportunities.

The group’s Chariman, Chief Cajetan Umenzekwe, who addressed newsmen in Uga, Aguata on Thursday said Chief G.O.C Ezeno, candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP) was eminently qualified for the seat.

Umenzekwe said that apart from being an indigene of Akpo, Ezeno had the charisma and boldness to give quality representation to the people of Aguata.

Aguata 1 Constituency is made up of Achina, Akpo, Amesi, Mkpologwu, Uga and Umuchu.

“We, Aguata Politicians and Elite, having followed the political development in Aguata and also having carefully assessed the candidates for Aguata 1 Constituency are endorsing the candidature of G.O.C Ezeno.

“Our position is informed by the fact that we have lacked good representation at all levels and this time we need a House member that is bold, accessible and confident.

“We call on the good people of Aguata South to come out en mass on Saturday and cast their vote massively for the YPP and the flag bearer, Ezeno,” he said.

Also, Mr John Ezeofor said equity favoured Akpo for the position as the community had not had a shot at the seat since 1999.

According Ezeofor, Amesi represented the constituency from 1999 to 2007, Umuchu was there between 2007 and 2011, while Uga has been there since 2011 till date.

The stakeholder said voting the YPP candidate from Akpo who is eminently qualified this time would guarantee the rotational sustainability and allow other towns to take their turns easily.

Aguata is Anambra South Senatorial District where YPP has already produced a Senator-elect in the person of Chief Ifeanyi Ubah of the Capital Oil fame. (NAN)
