THE Anambra State government has continued the inspection of ongoing road projects with latest being the Oroma-Umuikwu-Onono in Anambra West Local Government Area.

The 18.5 Km road, connecting Oroma Umudora-Umuikwu Onono with a spur to Umueze Anam would cost Government, about N6 billion, to be completed.

Governor Willie Obiano, while inspecting the road recounted the importance of the access to some remote communities in the state.

The governor expressed satisfaction at the standard of ongoing work at the project site.

He noted that the road would provide access to the people, stressing that it would promote evacuation of farm produce when completed.

Obiano described the communities as `rich people’, who specialise in the production of vegetables and other agricultural produce.

He said that the completion of the road would boost economic activities and enhance food sufficiency.

“We are ready to complete the road because; I know the hardships our people here pass through yearly. I will be glad to be associated with the success story of completing road.

“When completed, the road will open up access to rich agricultural offerings of Anambra North and facilitate trade and commerce among Anambra, Enugu and other neighbouring states,” Obiano stressed.

Marcel Ifejiofor, an engineer and Anambra State commissioner for Works, observed that the road was one of the most expensive roads embarked upon by the present administration.

The commissioner noted that the earthwork and sand filling were done within specifications.

Fredrick Yusuf, the contractor, assured that the work would be completed in less than two years and according to standard design.

He explained that because of the terrain was within the flood-plain, noting that there would be high sand filling with sharp sand.

At the inspection site, it was observed that excavation of unwanted sand, and sand stone base works were ongoing.

Bonaventure Enemali, the commissioner for Youth and Creative Economy, who is from the area, commended the governor and Henry Okeke, the Anglican Bishop of Mbamili Diocese.
