THE Anambra State Government says it will soon review upwards, the monthly allowances of corps members performing their compulsory National Service in hard-to-reach areas of Anambra State.

This is to compensate for the fact that they have been posted to areas with bad terrain and impassable road network.

Gov. Willie Obiano said this at Umunya NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp during the closing ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation exercise.

The Governor, represented by Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Afam Mbanefo, said that his government created the enabling environment for corps members to excel in their places of primary assignments.

He promised to provide necessary support for their community development initiative.

Obiano noted that a reward system had been instituted to honour deserving corps members, who excel at the end of the service year.

“There shall, therefore, be no excuse for you to fail to live up to the people’s expectations as agents of change in your respective host communities,’’ he said.

The governor said that he offered the corps members’ opportunities to participate in governance, which was proof that he reposed confidence in them.

He promised that opportunities shall be given to them to participate in the implementation of government programmes by providing manpower for improvement of the standard of education in the state.

Obiano also said that they would be deployed to diverse areas to help in primary healthcare delivery, agricultural development, environmental sanitation and urban/rural beautification programmes.

He urged corps members to embrace various agricultural activities mapped out by Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation Processing and Export in Youth Agriculture Initiative.

Gov. Obiano also assured them that his government would harness their expertise and creativity in making Anambra State a shining light that would be more luminous.

“Let me reiterate government’s resolve to complete perimeter fencing and other amenities at NYSC ultra modern permanent orientation camp at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu.

“Anambra Government will facilitate your relocation to the new site as promised,’’ Obiano said.

The Coordinator, Anambra State NYSC, Kehinde Aremu, said that NYSC would support the Obiano administration to achieve its objectives through posting corps members to health institutions in inaccessible towns like some areas of Ogbaru.

Aremu noted that the NYSC in Anambra had been supportive of Gov. Obiano’s efforts in delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

“We are committed to helping this government to achieve its objectives because of the enormous support the scheme has received from the administration,’’ he said.

He, however, urged corps members to deliver selfless service to Ndi Anambra.
