The Anambra State House of Assembly has debated a bill for law to provide for revision, printing and publication of the revised laws of Anambra State and related purposes.

Victor Okoye, majority leader and the member representing Anambra West constituency led the debate.

Okoye noted that all the laws enacted since 1999 until  Dec. 1, 2018 be identified, reviewed, revised and updated to bring them in conformity with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The lawmaker added that all the motions and laws passed should be made available to the people of the state, especially our lawyers.

Earlier, Chugbo Enwezor, the member representing Onitsha North 1 constituency, said: “we practice democracy and as such people should be free or allowed to access any law or motion passed by the Anambra State Assembly’’.

Enwezor explained that through the bill, the citizens would know the laws and motions made in Anambra that would help in documentation and easy retrieval.

Following submissions from other legislators, the bill was read for the second time and sent to committee on judiciary for further screening.

Meanwhile, a bill for a law to provide for the prohibition of the operation of commercial motorcycles in the Anambra State and related matters was debated on the floor of the House.

The bill was read for the second time and sent to Committee on Transportation for further verification.

Enwezor maintained that the ban was only in Awka and Onitsha and not Anambra State as a whole.

Nkoli Mmegbuanaeze, member representing Idemili North, commended the governor for coming to their rescue in the constructions on Ideani and Ogidi roads.

Belonwu Onyemachi, who was nominated by the Governor as Executive Secretary of Health Insurance Scheme was confirmed by the House after being screened by screening committee.
